Inspiring Leaders - Izabela Russell

So! I'm finally back on track with this series! I met Izabela and her husband Mike through a university Podcast Conference in September, when they ran a seminar on the ins and outs of best practice in podcasting.

They began their session with a competition: guess how many ladybugs were on Mike's shirt... Now, I was sat right at the back and couldn't see a thing but I thought to myself "engage with it and just see what happens". And that's how I co-won one of their programmes for free!

They're a wonderful couple who are completely redefining the day job and redefining seminars.

So without further ado, here's Izabela:

What is the most important thing to you in a job? And your own job?

Job? I think that as “job” is such a big part of life for any human being there should never be an instance to refer to is as such. The most important thing for me is to do what I love to do, when I love to do it. Then I know I will do it well and I will be happy with my life every day.

What do you look for in an employee?

Somebody who shares the same values as I do. Employee is another human being. The most important thing for me is to get along well with them from the very first meeting. You either “gel” or you don’t.

What qualities stand out to you in a young leader?

Lack of fear of failure. Because the bottom line is - there is nothing out there that anyone should be scared of. Life is too short for this.

Did you ever intend on becoming a leader?

Absolutely! I think leadership starts from as little as a team of 2. This is always something that came to me naturally.

Do you consider yourself entrepreneurial or intrapreneurial, and why?

Entrepreneurial, hands down. Life and work are one big adventure!

If you could give your 21 year old self one piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid to be you.
