Where to work in Gran Canaria

In light of the latest travel corridor news, it seems befitting to chat about the different places I enjoyed working from last year in Gran Canaria. It was never originally a destination I imagined to be a hotspot for digital nomads and remote workers, but once there I pleasantly surprised - and would highly recommend it!

The day after World Travel Market (WTM) London 2019, I flew out to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for the NomadCity Conference. Which was a great opportunity to learn more about the remote working world itself. It was so great to be surrounded by likeminded individuals with similar mindsets and outlooks on life. But to also get to know some of the science and history behind the industry as well.

So with this in mind, here are my mentions:

La Casa Italiana

This was actually my first coffee stop while wandering along the sea front. Although it’s called “the Italian house”, I went for a set breakfast menu which included some of my favourite Spanish breakfast staples like a coffee, juice and a “bocadillo de tortilla” (tortilla baguette).

Even with a little bit of rain it was the perfect place to ease into the day with some emails and primary tasks. Wifi was great, service was great, all round great!

The Couple

A cosy little find (also on the Paseo de las Canteras) that caught my eye with its alternative menu and look. Compared to a few of the ocean front restaurants and cafes that were very obviously tailored to a more tourist-y crowd, The Couple was definitely more of a hipster type venue. With veggie/vegan alternatives and colourful decor, I really enjoyed stopping in here for a couple of hours in the afternoon. With a second ocean front view, great wifi and great service, it was a no brainer!

If you have the time, definitely do wander along the Paseo de las Cantera, stopping in a couple of any of the cafes for a break/laptop time, all the way up to the top of the hill. The views are 100% worth it!

My only final thought is, if you have time to hire a car: go for it! While Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was great, it would have been to also explore some more of the old towns and the dunes in the south.

Could this be one for your laptop club list?
