5 places I will be visiting and why in 2019

With the new year, a stream of “places you should visit this year'“ posts and videos have surfaced. But I don’t really agree with this. Particularly as the same places seem to constantly be listed.

Don’t get me wrong, I 100% recommend visiting Iceland and Peru will always have a place in my heart. However that’s just it, I love them for my own reasons and I went when I had the opportunity (school) or the impulse (#SoloIcelandTrip2016). Personally, I quite honestly don’t believe in rating countries by year and, at this point in the internet world, think it’s been overdone.

Guides by year do not inspire me when looking for travel inspo. So instead, here are five places I will be visiting this year and the random Han-style reasons why:

1. Budapest (Hungary) - This trip has come about because I must take two days of annual leave before I leave my current job. So instead of staying in London twiddling my thumbs I had a little scroll on Skyscanner and, hey look at that, Budapest was one of the top three.

I don’t know what it is about this place, it intrigues me massively. So I’ve booked an Airbnb flat all to myself to spend a couple of days away working on my new brand as well as check out a couple of the beautiful sites. (Which will definitely include one of the beautiful outdoor bathes!)

Apparently going to Budapest in the winter is also a must!

2. Stockholm (Sweden) - Some people scroll Instagram and ASOS in the evening, me? You will typically catch me procrasti-scrolling through Skyscanner. Just before Christmas this is exactly what I was doing.

You may have noticed that flights and other journey prices vary depending on the day of the week that you book…? Well, one Tuesday evening I found flights to Stockholm for £19. I couldn’t help myself.

I’m looking forward to visiting Stockholm for the intrigue again, having heard so much about it as a sustainable lifestyle model as well as the beautiful architecture.

3. Zakopane (Poland) - While annual skiing in France looks wonderful, I was all up for going off-piste (hehe) and heading for a lesser known destination with a group of friends in March.

It’s cheaper, it’s less busy, it’s newer territory and it gives me the excuse to also tick Krakow off the list as well. I can’t decide what I’m more excited for: the ski, the après ski or the jacuzzi…! But it’ll also be great to spend a couple of days exploring the nomad spaces of Krakow!

4. Trentino (Italy) - Kylie Flavell created a beautiful vlog series on a solo hike in The Dolomites a couple of years ago but I had never thought about visiting this region myself.

Until Traverse announced they were holding one of their annual blogger/YouTuber events here in which I threw all caution to the wind and grabbed my ticket.

I’m really excited for this conference. To be surrounded by likeminded creatives and learn more about this space while also staying in such a beautiful location!

5. Bali (Indonesia) - While nothing is actually booked yet, Bali has been on my list for a few years now ever since I watched Eat Pray Love - I know, call me cliché! Since then, everyone has also been telling me it is one of the perfect places for meeting digital nomads and how much I’d love it.

Plus! I said I was going to do all of the ‘wouldn’t it be nice ifs’ in 2019 as well so here goes! I’ve done my homework, I’ve got my costs lined up: now it’s time to book and go!

Once the trips role around, there’ll be some more in depth information about these places. But for now, I thought I would share just a little bit about why I’m going this year in the off-chance you had had similar thoughts as well.

Where is on your 2019 list?
